It is a feast not of celebration, but of compassion.

The Seven Sorrows

1.The Prophecy of Simeon (Lk 2:35):

On the 40th day after Jesus’ birth, Mother Mary hears the words, “A sword will pierce your own soul too.” From that day, all her joys turned into sorrows. As revealed to St. Theresa, although the Blessed Mother already knew that the life of Her Son would be sacrificed for the Salvation of the World. She learned in greater detail what sufferings awaited Him.

2. The Flight into Egypt (Mt 2:13):

To save her Son from the sword of Herod, Mother Mary must flee in the middle of the night with nothing.

3. The Loss of Jesus in the Temple (Lk 2:48):

For three days and nights Mother Mary and Joseph searched for their 12 -year-old Son in Jerusalem, living the agony every parent fears – a lost child.

4.Meeting Jesus on the Way to Calvary:

On the road to Golgotha, she pushes through the crowd to see Her Son, His face is covered in blood and thorns, but she is helpless. It is the sorrow of helplessness.

5. Standing at the Foot of the Cross (Jn 19:25):

The Gospel says simply, “Standing by the cross was His mother…” She did not faint or run away like the Apostles. She stood. And there, while losing her Son, she becomes our Mother when Jesus says, “Woman, behold your son.”

6. Receiving Jesus’ Body in Her Arms:

This is the image of the Pietà. The same hands that once held the newborn baby warm and alive in Bethlehem now hold the same Son, cold and lifeless.

7.The Burial of Jesus:

Finally, Our Lady must do what no mother should do – lay her own Son in the tomb and walk away empty-handed into the silence of Holy Saturday.

According to tradition, Our Lady revealed 7 promises to those who meditate daily on her seven sorrows, They were revealed to St. Bridget of Sweden (1303 – 1373) and approved by the Church.

The Seven promises of Our Lady of Sorrows.

I will grant peace to their families.

Where there is prayer to the sorrowful Mother, quarrels and division will give way to peace and understanding.

They will be enlightened about the divine mysteries.

They will understand more deeply the love of Jesus and the meeting of their own suffering.

I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them in their work.

Our Lady herself will be near, especially in sickness, loneliness and in the hour of death.

I will give them as much as they ask for, as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my Son.

She, who never refused God anything will intercede powerfully for our true needs.

I will defend them in their spiritual battle with the informal enemy.

Against temptation, discouragement and evil, the Sorrowful Mother will be our Shield.

I will visibly help them at the moment of their death – they will see my face.

The greatest grace not to die alone, but to die in the arms of Our Mother.

I have obtained this grace from my Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness.

Those who spread this devotion will receive the grace of final perseverance and heaven.

Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows is not about staying in sadness, but about learning how to love through sadness. Mother Mary stood at the foot of the Cross not because she was helpless, but because love kept her there. She teaches us that every tear, when united with Jesus, can become a prayer. So when your own cross feels heavy do not run away from her, run to her,you will find strength to stand again. Most Sorrowful Mother, we entrust our sorrows to you. Lead us to Jesus. Amen.

Here are the most powerful and traditional prayers to Our Lady of Sorrows .All approved by the Church

The Chaplet / Crown of Seven Sorrows [Main Devotion]

Pray this daily.
