The Catechetical Association of St. Sebastian Church, Aquem, joyfully celebrated Grandparents’ Day with great joy and enthusiasm, honoring the love, care and wisdom of grandparents and bringing together grandparents, parents, catechists and students in a celebration of love, faith and family.
The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Rev. Fr. Ubaldo Fernandes, Parish Priest, and organized by the students of Book 6B. Following the Mass, the Grandparents’ Day programme commenced with a warm welcome extended to all the grandparents. The students of Pre-Communion and Communion presented a lively performance of a welcome action song which set the joyful tone. This was followed by a dance by the students of Book 4. The grandparents were then invited to come forward for the cake cutting ceremony which added to the joy of the occasion.
The celebration continued with a heartfelt speech by one of the grandparents, who shared her reflections on the blessings, joys and responsibilities of being a grandparent. The students of Books 5 and 6B then presented an act featuring Golden Era Konkani songs which took the audience on a nostalgic journey. The students of Book 6C followed with an engaging skit that highlighted the importance of loving, respecting and caring for grandparents. An inspiring address by our Parish Priest further enriched the celebration as he acknowledged the invaluable role of grandparents in strengthening families and passing on faith, values and traditions to younger generations. He encouraged everyone to cherish and honor the elderly for their wisdom, sacrifices and unconditional love. The programme then continued on a lively note with a vibrant Goan Dance performed by the students of Book 6A, celebrating Goa’s rich cultural heritage.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to the Parish Priest, grandparents, parents, catechists, students and all those who contributed to the success of the celebration. As a token of appreciation and affection, gifts were presented to all the grandparents.
The Grandparents’ Day celebration was a beautiful and meaningful occasion that celebrated the invaluable role grandparents hold in the lives of their families and the community. The event was a success, leaving behind cherished memories for both children and their beloved grandparents.
